ABOUT US

Silatech is an international social development nonprofit non-governmental organization, that works on connecting youth wherever they are to jobs and enable resources for them to establish and sustain successful enterprises through providing innovative solutions to its local, regional and international partners. The organization promotes large-scale job creation, entrepreneurship, access to capital and markets, and the participation of young people in economic development thus contributing to the attainment of a number of sustainable development goals.

OUR JOURNEY

In a turbulent world of political conflict and social unrest, young people have fallen prey to poverty, unemployment, and marginalization. In the midst of all this, it has become essential to find innovative solutions to the problems youth are facing. There is an urgent need to not only prevent the problems but to eliminate them entirely in order to help young people take control of their future and influence their communities positively.

In 2006, as a member in the High-Level Group and an ambassador in the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Her Highness invited the members in New York to discuss “expanding opportunities for Arab youth.”

Following this meeting, a team work of regional and international specialists was formed. This team collaborated with international organizations to conduct research and to identify priority sectors in the Arab world, which lead to launching the initiative.

Silatech was formally launched by Her Highness, Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser at the Alliance of Civilizations Forum, held in Madrid, Spain in January 2008. With youth at the center of her vision, Silatech’s mission is to empower youth to act as agents of change to build a better future for the coming generations.

The name “Silatech”, which derives from the Arabic word “Sila” meaning connection, was inspired by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser. Silatech remains true to its name as it continues to connect youth with employment opportunities.

Silatech has succeeded in raising US$ 377 million in partner co-funding, creating a network of more than 300 partners and connecting more than 1,3 million youth to jobs. Silatech currently has programs in 17 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, Comoros, and a program for Syrian refugees in Turkey.

The organisation works on achieving its mandate with the support of the State of Qatar.
